How Important is Reflective Writing

Introduction

Reflective writing is analysing an event, memory, happening, and any observation where the writer reflects or expresses his/her feelings, impacts and learnings.

Reflective writing is often employed in an academic setting to analyze the students’ experience while confronting the assignment or academic writing, exposing the process of critical thinking of the Assignee or the researcher.

Reflective writings are essential as it encourages the researchers to look back at their experience and sum up in proper written format.

Develops Critical Thinking

Reflective writing is critical in academic writing as it helps to develop critical thinking among the students. When students recollect their experiences, feelings, worries and outcomes they achieved during the research, they analyze what they have done and what was good and bad they have done. At such a stage where researchers or students recollect and explore their overall experience and feeling, they develop critical thinking unknowingly.

Self-Assessment Habit

Students or researchers become habitual to recall their activities and feelings for their routine work and performance. They keep a record of their activities to maintain a balance and improve their flaws to achieve specific goals to become successful. Researchers develop this habit of assessment in their other daily life routines to sustain their activities.

Reflective writing plays a vital role in the creativity of students. Creativity is not limited to a single aspect; instead is widespread. Researchers learn creativity and innovativeness during writing self-reflection and recalling their experience, and they have to present their feelings and worries in words. Researchers know about the technique to explain the feeling in innovative ways.

Expertise in Writing Skills

Reflective writing carries tremendous importance due to its vital role in the betterment of writing skills. Students learn how to interpret their emotions, difficulties and other experiences in the form of words. They know how to play with words to catch the attention of the readers. They become able to present the ideas or emotion in formal and informal ways according to the situation prevailing.

Strengthens the Opinion

Reflective writing, in this aspect, is very important for both readers and writers. When the writer or the students write their reflection report, they set their opinion about their experience and feeling as they analyse the situation and its outcome. They improve their opinion as they finish their research and reflection on the research they have done. Moreover, the reader’s opinion is also affected by their critical analysis and evaluation presented in the reflection about the study.

All in all, in the present above arguments, it can be said that reflection writing is very important for the students and researchers to enhance their skills and abilities. Therefore, Reflective Writing must be given the privilege in the universities and colleges to level up and motivate the students and researchers to come forward to do research and reflect their experience for themselves, their talent and skills and for the research itself. Through such initiatives of colleges and universities, the study will be promoted, producing researchers and critics. On the part of students, they must write the reflection report at the end of their courses or the semesters to improve their skills and promote reflective writing.
